The reason was the Queen's visit but the story I heard was a little more amusing than that. The Queen, as you said, was due to visit Lagos, and the rumour had been put about that hats should be removed in her presence. However, the climate being what it is, not many people owned hats so many rushed out and bought one. Jan 19 04, 1:22 AM
