The six who captained England to 10 victories or more in the 20th century are: Len Hutton (Test career 1952-55), Peter May (1955-61), Ray Illingworth (1969-73), Mike Brearley (1977-81), Graham Gooch (1988-93) and Mike Atherton (1993-2001). Nasser Hussain has also exceeded 10 victories, but the majority of his captaincy falls into the 21st century.

Of these, May, with 20 victories won the most, and Brearley and Illingworth went 15 or more matches without sustaining a defeat.
Trawling through the stats has yet to yield up a captain with 10 straight wins though.

I couldn't find one either Linus.
I did wonder if the captain might be female ?

Good point, DB. It could be Rachel Heyhoe Flint, but I'm having trouble unearthing her stats as captain.
