    What pants were first worn during the California Gold Rush?

    		It could be Levi Strauss denim jeans. He went to California to capitalise on the Gold rush.

    		Levi Strauss' first jeans were made of heavy canvas for the diggers. Denim came along later.

    		Interesting thing about jeans... They used to have metal buttons instead of zippers (recent fads have gone back to the buttons). The reason they went away from buttons to zippers (with a flap on the inside and outside) is that people would sit around the fire and their metal buttons would become hot and start to burn sensitive areas.
