The Vulcan laser at the Rutherford Appleton Lab, Chilton, Oxfordshire, UK is the highest-intensity focused laser in the world. It is capable of producing a laser beam with an irradiance (focused intensity) of 10 to the power of 21 watts per square cm. The McDonald Laser Ranging Station at Fort Davis, Texas used a laser to measure the distance between the Earth and the Moon to an accuracy of 1 cm. These are the most longest and accurate measurements currently known.
