On TV, John Steed of the Avengers would fight crime wearing a bowler hat. Which alliterative crime fighter also fought crime wearing a bowler hat about five years earlier?

How about Hiram Holliday?

"A delightful series whose short four month run appealed to the superhero in each of us. Based on the stories of PAUL GALLICO. Hiram was a mild-mannered proofreader for a great metropolitan news-paper who simply could do everything... and do it perfectly! Does this sound familiar? No, Hiram had no super-powers, but he could fence with his furled umbrella with enough skill to rout the toughest evil-doer."
I found that on another site. Haven't checked yours yet, SM and all the pictures I've seen so far show him without his bowler hat. Once I'd stopped being fixated on the hat and concentrated on the alliteration he was relatively easy to find.
An eponymous alliterative hero!

I have just searched for sites relating to Wally Cox and the Hiram Holliday character and only one mentions the bowler hat and that was not an official site.Apologies if this made it difficult to locate. I do remember seeing a picture of him wearing one as the character and will try and find where it came from.
