    Do you know why some nerves cross over to the opposite side and some don't?

    		Very primitive lifeforms do not have the cross-over. There is a theory that some bottom dwelling fish started lying on his side at the bottom of the sea and twisting his head to one side to see upwards. Gradually this became the norm for this type of creature. Eventually it twisted further and started to swim upright again, but now the entire body had twisted by 180 degrees relatvie to the head.

    Nerves from ears don't twist because the ears are right beside the brain, so they just connect direct. Eyes are more complicated: the signals for the left side of your vision (from both eyes) go to the side of your brain that controls the limbs on that side, presumably for better control.
