The sun is much hotter on the inside than on the outside. Surface temperature is 5,500 degrees C, while the temperature at the core is estimated to be about 15,000,000 degrees C.
The Sun is basically a hydrogen bomb, in which hydrogen is fused into helium, giving off lots of energy.
