Other than handicap races, weight-for-age events, and races run at set weights, are there any other types of horse race?

There are different horse races based on the quality of horses involved (at least in the US). For instance, maiden races involve horses that have never won a race before. Claiming races usually involve mid-level ability horses, and they are so-called because the horses involved are subject to being purchased. Once a horse does well in claiming races it is usually moved up to the stakes races to avoid being claimed. Here's a website that explains the differences in these races better than I can:
