Normally it is transparent, but as people get older, lumps may form in the aqueous humour, which will appear as specks in your vision. If the lump is very close to the line of vision, your eye will move to follow it, but since the lump is in the eye, it will move too. This produces the effect of a speck floating across the field of vision, so these are called "floaters".
