Some researchers have uncovered groups in the Middle Ages which believed the Merovingians were descendants of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. I've not read of any Satanic connection, but secret societies do figure in quite a bit.

Well, according to what I've been reading, not only are they rumored to have been descended from Mary Magdalene and Jesus, but there are also stories they are descended from the Israelite tribes, and also from the Romans.
What is indisputable is that they were just about the longest running family dynasty of a major country. Ruled Gaul/France from 409 to something like 752. There were apparently no surviving family members when the last king was deposed, but there are persistant stories of descendants, in the same way that there are rumors that Anastasia survived the killings by the Bolsheviks.

The Merovingian line was founded by Merowig (numerous pronunciations) and the most famous was Clovis (Louis) who converted to Christianity (along with a mass conversion of the Franks). Like most barbarians, the Franks and their kings tried to claim the mantle of the Romans, culminating in the coronation of Charlemagne. Surely any attempt to claim descent from a Christain line would have antedated Clovis at the very least.
