Who played the very first piano?

    Question #44776. Asked by joezhou300.

    Arpeggionist

My guess is that the inventor Bartolomeo Christofori played the first instrument he made. The earliest pieces for the piano were written by the Bach and Scarlatti families. The first recording that was made of a piano was by Johannes Brahms, who played the first of his own Hungarian Dances and a Strauss polka in 1887.

The piano was originally called the "gravicembalo col piano e forte" - litterally the "grand harpsichord with soft and loud capabilities". And it was invented in 1709.

    Bartolomeo Cristofori (di Francesco)
    (1655 - 1732)
If he invented it,he must have been the first to play it.

The piano first known as the pianoforte developed from the harpsichord around 1720, by Bartolomeo Cristofori of Padua, Italy. He called his new instrument 'Gravicembalo col piano e forte' or harpsichord with soft and loud. The instrument was already over a hundred years old by the time Beethoven was writing his last sonatas, around the time when it ousted the harpsichord as the standard keyboard instrument. The piano has had a central place in music since the middle of the eighteenth century. Around 1780, the upright piano was created by Johann Schmidt of Salzburg, Austria and later improved in 1802 by Thomas Loud of London whose upright piano had strings that ran diagonally.
