The earliest email said "qwertyuiop" in 1971 and was sent by Ray Tomilinson, a computer engineer at Bolt, Beranek and Newman Computer company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ray was the first person to decide to use the symbol @ to separate the person's name from address.
