    Dean Bowditch, aged 17, scored a hat-trick this weekend for the mighty Ipswich. He must be one of the youngest players to manage an English League hat-trick. Anyone know who is the youngest?

    Senior Moments

    		I think Alan Shearer was 17 when he scored a hat trick in the 4-2 win for Newcastle against Aresenal on 5th April 1988 making him the youngest player (at the time). He was 17 years 7 months and 8 days old.

    		Shearer was playing for Southampton, not Newcastle. It was his debut appearance.

    		BBC site has Shearer as the youngest to score a hat trick in the top flight.

    Bowditch was 17y 10m 5d incidentally.

    Still .... not bad.
