Are there such things as yellow spotted lizards?

Question #45569. Asked by water edd. (Mar 22 04 11:29 AM)

There is no such thing as Louis Sachar's "yellow spotted lizard" if that's what you meant. However, several species of real lizards do have yellow spots on them; Gila monsters, side-blotched lizards, blue tailed monitors, black-collard lizards, and Eastern collard lizards, just to name a few.

Louis Sachar's description of a "yellow spotted lizard" in his book "Holes" says that they have exactly 11 yellow spots, black teeth, yellow eyes rimmed by red circles, yellow-green bodies, are found in Texas, and are extremely venomous to humans.
The "yellow spotted night lizard" (Lepidophyma flavimaculatum) doesn't have any of those characteristics.
