Laocoon. I had to learn the appropriate passage from the Aeneid by heart at school, and years later I can still remember it though I won't bore you with it all now. Suffice to say it was he who said, "Equo non credite, Teucri. Quidquid id est, timeo Danaos et dona ferentes," which means, "Trust not the horse, Trojans. I fear the Greeks, even when bearing gifts." Then he and his sons were eaten by a large serpent which emerged from the sea.
