From distant memory, the Via Dolorosa is still a road in Jerusalem, as I remember going there over 30 years ago.

I have visited both in Jerusalem, but bearing in mind all the bickering that goes on between the various branches of Christianity as to the "correct" location of such sites - who knows

We know where Empress Helena decided they were in about 330 CE, and since then their positions have remained more or less unchanged I believe (Arpeggionist might know better than anyone).
However we cannot be sure how scientifically she researched this when she visited Jerusalem, or whether there was anything there at the time to give her any guidance in placing all the holy sites she identified.

The precise location of the Calvary is unknown. But the Via Dolorosa is a nice sized road in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City here in Jerusalem. It is one of Christian tourism's most popular sites. It runs from just north of the Western Wall out to what is now the Christian Quarter, to the Church of the Holy Sephulchre. During Roman times this was the central road in Jerusalem, and Jesus was one of myriads who were probably executed there, whether by stoning, hanging or crucifixion. As for the exact spot where Jesus was executed, that is still under dispute between the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox sects.
Today the Via Dolorosa is actually a pleasant street. It is one of the least accessable to vehicles in Jerusalem, but the foot traffic there is great, with Arabs lined up selling nice souvenirs on every side of it. The last time I was on that street was a couple summers ago, I was joining one of my uncle's tours (he's one of the finest tour guides in the country). The Old City is in walking distance from my home, but I rarely ever get there, and even when I do I usually head straight for the Western Wall.
