What causes one to be approved for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

Primarily, money (surprise!). $15,000 is the current going rate, which secures your application. Applications are based on two nebulous items: Professional achievement in entertainment, and contributions to the community. Another, called 5 years longevity, is a little vague to me, unless it refers to the fact that accepted applicants have 5 years to schedule their Walk of Stars ceremony. Apr 08 04, 9:15 PM

The Walk of Fame honors those who have made significant contributions in the categories of radio, television, motion pictures, recording and live performance. All nominated artists are carefully and objectively evaluated. When nominating an individual or group, the sponsor must submit the nominee's qualifications as well as contributions to the community and/or civic-oriented activities.
