Bill Haley an the Comets recorded "Rock Around the Clock" on April 12, 1954, As it is popularly (and controversially) called "the first rock and roll song", are you looking for the answer "rock and roll"?

April 12, 1954 was also the date of the fall of Dien Bien Phu, which could be considered the begining of the Vietnam War.

I was looking for the rock and roll connection, griff, so it's a big YAY! for rock around the clock. I was listening to a programme about it -and agree with the "controversial" aspect - it wasn't really the first rock and roll song, was it? And I never knew that rock and roll had entirely another meaning...
