Were the names of Henry VIII's three Catherines spelt with K's or C's or a combination of both?

Spelling was never really a priority during early periods. Most people, the ones that could write anyway, spelt words the way they thought they ought to be spelt. You can find at least a couple of alternatives for the least common words.

While RMG does make a correct point, the minature of Katherine of Aragon attr. to Lucas Hoernbout in the national Portrait Gallery, London, is inscribed on the picture "Regina Katherina". Also where Henry and Katherine's initals are found together they are always H&K. (E.g. the rare half-George-noble of c. 1526 and at "Catherine of Aragon's closet, St George's chapel, Windsor)
"Henry VIII, The King and His Court" by Alison Weir and "Great Harry" by Carolly Erickson use the spelling Katherine throughout.
