If you look at the flags of Chad and Romania, you will see they each consist of three vertical strips blue, yellow, red from left to right. Before the Soviet Union broke up, the Romanian flag was distinguished by the hammer and sickle. Now that symbol has been removed, the flags are virtually identical. Although it could be argued that the blue in the Romanian flag is minimally lighter, Chad has taken the matter to the United Nations to obtain a ruling on the legitimacy of the Romanian flag.
