Minnesota Vikings. In 1970, at Super Bowl IV, not only did their balloon crash but they were soundly beaten by the Kansas City Chiefs. The game's festivities also included a recreation of the 1812 Battle of New Orleans where the horses ran amok.

In Super Bowl IV at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, the game between the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs featured a hot-air balloon ascending before the kickoff. It was a very bad omen for the Vikings that the balloon representing their team never got high enough to get out of the stadium and crashed into the upper deck. (They lost the game.)
