    Why is ice slippery?

    I suppose it is because any pressure on the icy surface heats it up enough to melt it, so creating a thin liquid film over the solid ice and reducing the friction.

    A recent book by Alain Hache on hockey physics says that ice is slippery because there is a thin "quasi-fluid layer" on it, and is on all types of ice.
