Does the red triangle of Bass beer stand for anything or is it just decorative?

Good question as it was the first trade mark offically registered in GB in January 1876. Why I have no idea at the moment!

The red triangle was just a clear symbol used to identify to the illiterate beer drinker a bottle of Mr William Bass's India Pale Ale and distinguish it from other "inferior" beers on the market.
