Yay BM! Dawe was the compiler of the Daily Telegraph crossword for that week but after cross-examination the authorities were satisfied that this was a huge coincidence. However, Dawe was a teacher who used to get his pupils to lay out the grids and he compiled the clues. In 1984, a man called French claimed his had heard all the words being discussed at a US Army base and put all the words into the crossword.
