    		The butler was Erich von Stroheim, film director, and the film makes a reference to Swanson in Stroheim's real film fiasco, "Queen Kelly". Stroheim won a nomination for his role in "Sunset Boulevard".

    		Erich von Stroheim, as a director, famous for the overblown budgets of his films and as an actor, he is remembers for his bald, monocled portrayals of Nazi officers, must be unique in many ways.
    For a start, he was probably the only German speaking winner of the French Legion d'Honeur after the war.
