On Laurel and Hardy, there was a characted who went 'Doooooooooh' whenever something wrong was done. Matt Groegning liked this, and so tried to put it onto the recording track for Homer, but it didn't sound right, so he shortened it. Plus, it sort of sounds like 'donuts', doesn't it?
