The medal known as the 'Blue Max' is the Pour le Mérite, although I doubt it's American because of the name and the fact that the Red Baron was awarded one.

A bit more info. It was established in 1667 by Margrave Frederick, awarded to people of the kingdom of Prussia. The criteria is 'military personnnel for repeated and continual gallantry in action' and it must be worn whenever in uniform.

There is no US medal with such a name. Blue Max is the nickname of a recipient of the Pour le Mérite (For Merit.) It was a Prusian medal originaly named the Ordre de la Generosite (Order of Generosity), and was established by Friedrich Wilhelm I. The Ordre de la Generosite was renamed the Pour le Mérite by Friedrich II, who was also known as Friedrich the Great. I am an Apache Pilot whos compant callsign is Blue Max.
