The New York Yankees do not have the players' names on their jersey backs. Why not? Has this always been the case? What other Major League Baseball teams follow this practice?

The Yankees are the only team to have never put names on their jerseys, for tradition's sake as far as I can see. Other teams omit the names on away game uniforms only.
