Why was there an increase in the number of wild polar bears in Iceland in the 1960s?

    Question #49198. Asked by gmackematix.

Because a large section of the polar ice cap melted and broke away. A collection of polar bears was stranded on it and it eventually floated down to Iceland where they lived happily ever after.

I recall it was quite the opposite. Excessive freezing in 1967 led to an ice bridge between Greenland amd Iceland which a number of polar bears crossed. They regularly travel huge distances on foot although they do also travel on ice floes.
