Last week I saw a car being driven along a road in NSW, Australia. It had a numberplate but the numberplate didn't have any letters or numerals, yet it is legal for this vehicle to be driven on the road. What was on the "numberplate?"

    Question #49544. Asked by Kainantu.

Does not the Governor General's numberplate have (oh Lord) a crown on it?

Well, this has got me as well, as I have the latest book of number plates of the world, and though many countries do use non-character plates for a privileged few, the gallery for NSW is pretty average and has no unusual plates.
Then I thought, hang on, it didn't have to be a local car, so having searched all Australian examples, have found the governor of WA and mayor of Perth have coats of arms, and the Governor general of capital territory has a crown, as mumby said. So I can see 3 examples, and unless you knew they'd be there in advance I'd say you were very lucky to see it.
In the UK certain official cars are the only ones to use a single zero as a number, such as LM 0 for the Lord Mayor of London, and the Queen is exempt from using a number plate at all.

    Great research satguru !

It was indeed a crown. Gilded and all with some red inserts.

It was on the occasion of the official opening of the $53.56 million Dillynia Correctional Centre for Women at Windsor NSW on Thursday 15 July 2004 by Governor Professor Marie Bashir AC
