On the Mad Magazines there is that boy with the freckles, Alfred E. Newman. What does the E stand for?

Alfred E. Neuman. I've always suspected it didn't stand for anything in particular, and just now have found out for sure. Apparently, it was selected from a movie music composer's name, Alfred Neuman, and the creators of Mad simply added an 'E' to differentiate it. http://www.madmumblings.com/dick2.html Jul 24 04, 7:57 PM

At first the name was "Alfred L. Neuman" and unconnected to the boy. But later, when they decided to put the name and boy together, they named him "Alfred E. Neuman".
