Most animals will only have sex "mate" during certain times of the year. When the female is in season and the usual out come is offspring. Dolphins mate all year round at any time and not just to reproduce, so the deduction would be that this is done for fun. We find this out through observation and studies carried out. The same way we know that apart for humans and apes dolphins and elephants are the only species that recognise themselves in a mirror. Also apart from humans and their distant cousins dolphins and elephants are the only animals that have their breasts between their front legs.

Bonobos (pygmy chimpanzees) not only appear to enjoy sex, also between females, they have the more striking characteristic that sexual play is used as a bonding ritual, defining a (female) social grouping. This is called the hoka-hoka in the Mongandu expression.
The bonobos have found the secret ..... cut out the middle man.
