Non-green answer - systemic insecticide. Otherwise, encourage whatever lives in your neck of the woods (or hills or whatever) that eats largish insects. If growing for flower show display, consider net bags over the plants. Choose the mesh size to exclude the critters that aren't welcome, and make sure to support the nets so as not to weigh the plants down. On the green side, try encouraging cricket predators, such as lizards and birds. Hang up bird feeders near the areas affected and you'll be graced with song and friends who'll eat most plant pests.
