This is just a guess, because I don't think she won three US Opens. I can only recall Babe Didrikson winning one US Open, but in 1932 she won two gold medals and one silver in the Olympic Games in LA.

A definite yay there, Potterguy. As Babe Zaharias she won the women's US Open in 1948, 50 and 54. Her unique triple feat (for a man or woman) was winning medals in running (80m), throwing (javelin) and jumpng (high jump). For an extra point, why did she only get silver in the high jump despite being a better jumper than her rival?

Back then her jumps were declared illegal as her head went over the bar before her feet so she was awarded a silver despite jumping much higher than her nearest competitor.
She was called Babe because of her skill at baseball. When asked if there was anything she didn't play, her reply was "Dolls".
