    I have just seen a list of countries in order of how many Olympic medals they have won. At the bottom of the list with one bronze is Wales. When and in what event did Wales win this and how did they come to be competing separately from the rest of Britain?

    That includes the Intercalated games of 1906 which is not recognised by the IOC. Great Britain appears numerous times in the list as well.

    In the London games of 1908 England, Scotland and Wales entered separate teams in the Hockey event.

    I'm not sure why, but it appears that there were only 3 other teams entered (Ireland, France and Germany), so I'm guessing that it was done simply to ensure that there was a sufficiently large number of teams...
