    How many steps do the best 100 metre runners usually take to run their race?

    		It all depends on their height:

    A six foot athlete (1.8 metres) has an average stride length of 2.5 metres.(Atwater's study)

    This means that in 100 metres such an athlete does 40 paces…

    		It also depends where the athlete comes from and where the race is run. In the 2004 Olympics, a Greek athlete would not have to go as far as one from the USA. It also depends on whether it is a final as they may have had umpteen heats to contend with to get there. If you are just referring to the number of strides taken during one race, I agree with K.
