It also depends where the athlete comes from and where the race is run. In the 2004 Olympics, a Greek athlete would not have to go as far as one from the USA. It also depends on whether it is a final as they may have had umpteen heats to contend with to get there. If you are just referring to the number of strides taken during one race, I agree with K.
