The Olympic Games haven't been amateur since 1992, with the exception of boxing. Athletes can be sponsored for their events but are not awarded anything by the International Olympic Committee besides what they are given on the Olympic podium.
The gold medals awarded are silver with a 5% gold plate and have a scrap value in UK money of about £75.

Not all, but some do:
November 20, 2007: Canadian athletes will receive cash rewards for winning medals at the Olympic Games.
The Canadian Olympic Committee announced the decision Monday as it prepared for the Summer Games next August in Beijing.
Canadian kayaker Adam van Koeverden could pocket a lot of money if he earns a medal at next year's Olympics in China.

It's the first time Canada's athletes will be paid for winning medals at the high-performance competitions.
