The world's hottest spice is the Red Savina Habanero. It has a rating of 350,000–570,000 on the Scoville scale (an index for measuring the hotness of chillies), compared with a score of 2,500–5,000 for the jalapeño.

This spice is also known as scotch bonnet.

sorry:
The hottest pepper recorded was a Habenero. Pure capsaicin measures 16,000,000 Scoville units.

According to "The Top 10 of Everything" by Russell Ash, the hottest chillies are the Datil, Habanero, and the Scotch Bonnet, each measuring 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville units. These are the hottest chillies, not necessarily the hottest spices. I'll assume the Tepino pepper mentioned above is a pepper...

Hmmm.. I take back the last statement I made. What are the technical definitions and differences between spices, chillies, and peppers?

The debate on whether intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe has gone on for a long time. Centuries ago, the idea was called 'the plurality of worlds' - and the arguments over it form the very earliest works of science fiction.
