Bora Bora is part of French Polynesia, a French overseas possession, claimed in 1843. Settled by the Polynesians in 850, and part of the Society Islands, it's arguably the most famous island in the world
It's about 160 miles northwest of Tahiti and approximately 2,600 miles south of Hawaii
