Kind of interesting question, Buck, as it reminds me of some curious things about that event. I believe there were 1177 fatalities, and about 340 survivors. The ship was built to be manned by a crew of 915. At any rate, after many attempts to recover bodies were made, it eventually became fruitless and recovery was halted, leaving approx. 900 estimated dead in the ship. Hard to say where the other approx. 300 bodies were eventually buried, but I'm guessing many went to national cemetaries around the U.S. One such, The Punchbowl, is in Oahu.
