Leonardo was the first to describe the use of a camera obscura, although he did not invent it. The principle was known in 300 BC, and was documented in the tenth century. http://www.rleggat.com/photohistory/history/cameraob.htm If you mean the photographic camera, many people invented various components of the camera as we know it, principally Daguerre and Fox Talbot and, later, Eastman.
