    Who were the first and last recipients of the Dickin Medal?

    		The Dickin Medal was instituted in 1943 after much campaigning by Maria Dickin, the founder of the PDSA.
    The first was possibly Winkie, a carrier pigeon, awarded in Dec 1943. The latest was awarded to Buster, a Springer Spaniel. This was awarded on 9th December 2003. Buster is a rescue dog used by the Royal Army Vetenary Corps. He got it whilst serving in Iraq.
