    In 1983, Korean Air flight 7 was shot down by Soviet fighters killing all passengers and crew just near Sakhalin Island. Why was it shot down, and what flight number did this flight replace?

    		The short answer is the plane went off course violating USSR airspace. Claiming not to know it was a commercial flight and believing it was a military plane gathering intelligence they were justified in shooting down.
