When were Post-Its created and who created them? Do they still sell like they used to?

Spence Silver and Arthur Fry, 3M Chemists, are credited with the creation of Post-its in the early 80's. The company marketers orginally went door to door giving them away to businesses. Having them all over our office, I'd say they are still a very popular office item.

I vaguely recall that they were trying to create a superglue and they accidentally made a paste which clearly wasn't very sticky. One of the duo, a part-time chorister, used this paste to stick bits of paper in his choir-book and eventually began to wonder if there might be a market for this.
