A bit of gratuitous trivia: Harald Gormson (son of Gorm the Old), known as Bluetooth was the father of one of my favourite kings of England, the often overlooked King Sweyn I, known as Forkbeard. Sweyn (or Svein) was properly king of England for only about a month in 1014, though he had a much more substantial reign as King of Denmark and Norway (which included securing the most famous payment of Danegeld from Aethelred the Unread). Sweyn was the father of King Cnut (Canute), whose mother Gunhilda (Sweyn's second wife I think) gloried in the nickname Sigrid the Haughty, surely one of the best royal names ever, even at a time when having a slightly embarrassing nickname seems to have been obligatory!

Gratuitous trivia, here? Surely not! I gather Sweyn was a little annoyed at Ethelred and England after one of his relatives was caught up in the nasty business of the St Brice's Day Massacre.
