Basically an underground river is an underground river. Springs are on the surface, as Brainyblonde points out, but are often just a little trickle not the mini fountains I expected to find when I was small! Aquifers tend to be very slow moving. Here in sandy Southport, we have something called The Ream which flows from the moss lands to the east of us to the beach. It can cause interesting things to happen, such as when a friend of mine sank a well and lined it with 45 gallon drums. When we took it up again five years later, the lower drums had moved seawards by a couple of feet.
