Quasimoto was a babe left on the doorsteps of the Church. He was deformed so as he grew older he was restricted to the bell tower. Then he fell in love with Esmirelda a gypsy dancer.

Ah - but why was he called Quasimodo?

Because he was born on the 1st Sunday after Easter. This is called Quasimodo, probably from the start of the gospel appointed for the day, or something like that. OK, anyone got a better idea - or one they can back up>

Good stab, Baloo. He was found rather than born that day and while the introit does begin with "Quasi modo", this name for Low Sunday was probably taken from it being performed "Almost in the manner of" Easter.

#Here we are: both or either. "He [sc. archdeacon Claude Frollo, Quasimodo's adoptive father] baptized his adopted child and called him Quasimodo; whether it was that he chose thereby to commemorate the day when he had found him, or that he meant to mark by that name how incomplete and imperfectly molded the poor little creature was. Indeed, Quasimodo, one-eyed, hunchbacked, and bow-legged, could hardly be considered as anything more than an almost." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octave_of_Easter 'Quasi' actually means 'as if' or seeming like', as in quasi-intelligent (as in a lot of people with degrees who seem to be unable to tie their shoelaces, metaphorically speaking...)
