I was reading that the second son of George V was named George VI. What was his first son's name and why didn't he succeed his father?

George V's first son was Edward VIII who abdicated the throne in within a year to marry an American divorcee.

Neither son was known by their "King's" name within the family. Edward VIII was called David, and George VI was called Bertie.
