Is there a place in the world where naming animals certain names is prohibited? I'm asking this becasue I just heard that it is illegal to name your animal Napoleon in France.

At one time in France, all people had to be named after either biblical characters, saints or classical (ancient Greek or Roman) people. You couldn't use a name like Wendy. This enabled observers to know the religious viewpoint of families. If the children were named Achille, Hector and so on, they were anti-clerical. If they had saint names, they were Roman Catholic. I don't think the name of Napoleon is that unpopular in France. His remains have been brought back and installed in the Pantheon, after all, and there is a Napoleonist party. Like the royalist party, it is rather small, but not banned. And if you google for 'rue Napoleon' (Napoleon Street) you'll find loads of examples.

Dogs in France have to have a name beginning with a particular letter, depending on which year they are born in, a bit like cars. So if you came across a dog called Rosie for example, you would know it was 6, say, and the same age as a dog called Robert. But it would be younger than a Maisie or a Norman.

Somewhere in South America it is illegal to name your pet with a human name, because some people may become depressed if they meet an animal with the same name as them.
