Long time ago, Jacob stole the identity of Esau in ancient Israel.

Jew all over the world are going to be reading that story in a couple days. Temporary identity theft is a common story in the Bible. Jacob, Leah, Joseph and Tamar are four characters which I could think of offhand who at some point lied to their family about who they were. In the book of Judges, thousands of men from the tribe of Ephraim tried to pose as people from Menasseh (and failed).
Shakespeare also wrote about temporary identity theft in his Comedy of Errors and in Henry V.

And for accuracy's sake, it wasn't ancient Israel, but ancient Canaan.
